SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/13/14 -- The AllSeen Alliance, the broadest Internet of Everything open source project, today announced that Bosch, Cloud of Things, Revolv and Shaspa have joined the effort to advance the AllJoyn open source project as the common, universal framework for autonomous, intelligent interoperation among a range of everyday objects and devices.
With the addition of these four companies, the AllSeen Alliance now totals 62 members. Alliance members include leading consumer electronics manufacturers, home appliance makers, automotive companies, Internet of Things cloud providers, enterprise technology companies, innovative startups, chipset manufacturers, service providers, retailers and software developers.
The goal of the AllSeen Alliance is to create a common, universal framework based off the AllJoyn open source project that allows devices and applications to discover and interact regardless of manufacturer, vertical or network. Through collaborative development and a growing open source community, the AllSeen Alliance is expanding AllJoyn to overcome the interoperability challenges that impede the Internet of Things' promise of ubiquitously connected experiences.
"The members of the AllSeen Alliance share the belief that a common, universal framework created through open source best practices is the only way to create a truly connected experience," said Joe Speed, director, IoT, the AllSeen Alliance. "Having global support across industry segments is the only way to overcome the interoperability challenges we face and achieve the true promise of IoT."
Bosch is a leading global supplier of technology and services in the automotive, industrial, energy and building technology and consumer goods sectors. Its portfolio includes automotive components for original equipment and aftermarket, drive and control technology, packaging technology, security and communication systems, thermotechnology, power tools, household appliances, healthcare telemedicine and software solutions. With its multifaceted hardware and software expertise and its global leadership in micromechanical sensors and connected devices, Bosch maintains a well-established position to help shape the connected world.
"We believe the collaborative activities of the AllSeen Alliance, based on the AllJoyn open-source code, serve as an important framework for further development," said Jiri Marek, regional president, corporate research, Robert Bosch LLC. "By adding AllSeen/AllJoyn as one of our network software solution partners, we expand the seamless interoperability of devices -- a critical step in making the Internet of Things a reality."
Cloud of Things provides an IoT platform that enables businesses to develop self-branded Internet of Things solutions quickly and easily. The Cloud of Things platform delivers the complete set of elements that constitute an IoT solution -- SDKs for endpoint devices, an insight-driven big-data cloud backend and an engine that automatically generates source-code for mobile control applications.
The Cloud of Things platform was built from the ground-up to support public-cloud, private-cloud and on-premise deployment models. Thus, in addition to consumer-oriented solutions, the platform enables companies to white-label IoT solutions that were originally built for consumers and use them securely within the enterprise.
"Today, businesses want to develop and deploy Internet of Things solutions, but are overwhelmed by the complexity and incompatibilities of existing solutions," said Eliav Gnessin, Founder and CEO, Cloud of Things Ltd. "The industry must work together to solve the technical complexities and challenges that impede interoperability, and the AllSeen Alliance is providing a forum for just that."
Revolv is a smart home solution that unifies premium smart home automation devices from one app. The company builds solutions that deliver the simplest and best smart home experience from premium, off-the-shelf wireless consumer electronics. Its cloud-based software connects with all of the specialized third-party wireless products being developed for the next generation home, such as lights, locks, sensors, thermostats and streaming entertainment systems.
"The promise of the next-generation smart home is extremely exciting, but it won't happen without a seamless experience that eliminates worries about protocol, language or manufacturer," said Mike Soucie, Co-Founder at Revolv. "The AllSeen Alliance is at the forefront of tackling this challenge, and we're excited to be part of the work."
Shaspa is a leading vendor of next-generation, smart building, IoT solutions. Shaspa offers a secure, scalable service delivery framework and gateway solution that supports the most commonly known protocols in the building management, automotive industry and has an installed based of half a million gateways worldwide. Using a selection of Industry solution templates, customers are able to go from initial workshop to pilot in 12-16 weeks with a selection of a couple thousand devices to connect to.
"The key challenge for the smart home industry is creating new models of collaboration that bring innovative products to market quickly," said Oliver Goh, CEO, Shaspa. "The AllSeen Alliance is leading the way in tackling this challenge, and we're excited to be part of the work."
The AllSeen Alliance also welcomes new sponsored member Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University.
