Curb, an energy tech startup that aims to transform the home automation space, announced today that it is among 12 promising startups selected to join the Capital Factory Incubator. Capital Factory is the largest incubator and co-working space for entrepreneurs in Austin, Texas. The incubator program is focused on helping tech startups achieve profitability with less than $1 million in funding.
"Right now, people aren’t interested in energy management because it’s not very engaging. Curb aims to change that by empowering people with information that enriches their lives and also saves them money on their utility bills,” said Erik Norwood, founder and CEO of Curb. “We’re excited to join the Capital Factory’s incredible ecosystem of collaboration and to accelerate Curb under the mentorship of some of the sharpest minds in the entrepreneur community.”
Curb is an energy engagement solution that takes a holistic approach to home energy usage. By providing circuit level electricity monitoring, continuous data collection, smart alerts, and a simple-to-use mobile and desktop application interface, Curb gets homeowners engaged in their energy landscape. Curb’s alert features give people real-time feedback about energy consumption in different parts of their home and from specific appliances. Not only does this help people understand how much electricity they’re using and make adjustments to reduce costs, but it also makes for a smarter, safer home. For example, abnormal energy usage, like a stove accidentally left on, gets reported quickly alerting homeowners of the danger.
"It's widely accepted that energy will be one of the biggest global challenges in the coming decades – yet somehow I still can't see the basic energy usage of my own home,” said Joshua Baer, founder of Capital Factory. “Solutions like Curb are a key component of the Smart Home and the Internet of Things.”
Of Capital Factory’s 200 member companies, only a handful make it through the intense screening process to be selected for participation in the incubator program. Incubator companies are passionate about changing the world with their technology, have working products, and have customer traction. For the past 18 months, Curb has been using customer feedback from more than 100 beta testers to iterate and improve features and functionality. Joining the Capital Factory will accelerate Curb’s full market launch timeline.

A company’s ability to become data-driven and compete on analytics depends on the speed with which it can provision their analytics applications with all relevant information. The task of finding data has traditionally resided with IT, but now organizations increasingl...

You have your devices and your data, but what about the rest of your Internet of Things story? Two popular classes of technologies that nicely handle the Big Data analytics for Internet of Things are Apache Hadoop and NoSQL. Hadoop is designed for parallelizing analytical work across many servers and is ideal for the massive data volumes you create with IoT devices. NoSQL databases such as Apache HBase are ideal for storing and retrieving IoT data as “time series data.”

Secure Cloud through Automated Compliance | @CloudExpo @CloudRaxak #Cloud #BigData #DevOps #Microservices
Cloud computing delivers on-demand resources that provide businesses with flexibility and cost-savings. The challenge in moving workloads to the cloud has been the cost and complexity of ensuring the initial and ongoing security and regulatory (PCI, HIPAA, FFIEC) compliance across private and public clouds. Manual security compliance is slow, prone to human error, and represents over 50% of the cost of managing cloud applications. Determining how to automate cloud security compliance is critical...
