Tekoia Launches SureMote -- First Easy-to-Use Smart Universal Remote App With Both WiFi and Infrared to Control Smart TVs and Legacy Appliances

At Computex, Tekoia Will Demo SureMote, Highlighting LG SmartTV and Second Screen Capability; Makes Need for Multiple Clunky Remotes Obsolete

RAMAT GAN, ISRAEL -- (Marketwired) -- 05/30/14 -- The SureMote smartphone universal remote app -- the first designed to be both easy to use and fully customizable right from the phone -- will be demo'ed a Computex. [See demo video here: http://youtu.be/--86xsJVA74] SureMote from Tekoia controls smart media streaming devices and legacy appliances using either WiFi or the phone's infrared (IR) capability, all from the same app. The SureMote Computex demo (NANGANG Sky Dome -- booth# 0436) highlights the LG SmartTV and its media streaming capabilities, as well as controlling infrared appliances, such as Apple TV and the iRobot Roomba vacuum.

A typical family has four old remotes which are hard to use, non-standard and only control a limited number of devices each. Considering that remote controls were first introduced by Nikola Tesla in 1898, these devices have not made much progress in more than a century. Developing a universal remote app that is easy to use, hard to lose and works with WiFi and infrared has been a surprisingly hard problem.

Today, with the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), the SureMote smartphone universal remote app is poised to control almost everything in your house starting with legacy IR appliances as well the new generation of WiFi-driven smart appliances. Using proprietary technology developed by Tekoia, SureMote runs on Android devices and is a platform for development of additional Smart Living functions needed for the IoT.

The SureMote design followed the principle of "Do Not Make Me Think," to create a smartphone remote app that revolutionizes the remote control user experience.

"SureMote is taking the legacy problems of remotes and moving to the future, where the Internet of Things will be controlling so many devices in the home," said Viktor Ariel, founder and CEO, Tekoia. "With SureMote we are focusing on innovation in the user experience and innovative communication technology to create a universal smartphone remote app designed from a user's point of view. We do not see the remote as an afterthought so the design is appealing. It is a painkiller solution for both appliance makers and users."

Features of the SureMote smartphone remote app

The SureMote universal remote app:

  • Will be available from the PlayStore in July, 2014
  • Works as is with smartphones, no additional hardware necessary
  • Runs on Android devices with iOS version coming later this year
  • Is a standards-based solution supporting UPnP as the main communication protocol, OIPF command set and a secure encryption layer
  • Includes a new and easy-to-use interface with novel controls like the keyboard, mouse, gyro and voice to make it a fully functioning, easy-to-navigate remote

Cloud data governance was previously an avoided function when cloud deployments were relatively small. With the rapid adoption in public cloud – both rogue and sanctioned, it’s not uncommon to find regulated data dumped into public cloud and unprotected. This is why enterprises and cloud providers alike need to embrace a cloud data governance function and map policies, processes and technology controls accordingly. In her session at 15th Cloud Expo, Evelyn de Souza, Data Privacy and Compliance...
Roberto Medrano, Executive Vice President at SOA Software, had reached 30,000 page views on his home page - http://RobertoMedrano.SYS-CON.com/ - on the SYS-CON family of online magazines, which includes Cloud Computing Journal, Internet of Things Journal, Big Data Journal, and SOA World Magazine. He is a recognized executive in the information technology fields of SOA, internet security, governance, and compliance. There are many considerations when moving applications from on-premise to cloud. It is critical to understand the benefits and also challenges of this migration. A successful migration will result in lower Total Cost of Ownership, yet offer the same or higher level of robustness. In his session at 15th Cloud Expo, Michael Meiner, an Engineering Director at Oracle, Corporation, will analyze a range of cloud offerings (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and discuss the benefits/challenges of migrating to each of...
The industrial software market has treated data with the mentality of “collect everything now, worry about how to use it later.” We now find ourselves buried in data, with the pervasive connectivity of the (Industrial) Internet of Things only piling on more numbers. There’s too much data and not enough information. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Bob Gates, Global Marketing Director, GE’s Intelligent Platforms business, to discuss how realizing the power of IoT, software developers are now focu...
We certainly live in interesting technological times. And no more interesting than the current competing IoT standards for connectivity. Various standards bodies, approaches, and ecosystems are vying for mindshare and positioning for a competitive edge. It is clear that when the dust settles, we will have new protocols, evolved protocols, that will change the way we interact with devices and infrastructure. We will also have evolved web protocols, like HTTP/2, that will be changing the very core...
Every innovation or invention was originally a daydream. You like to imagine a “what-if” scenario. And with all the attention being paid to the so-called Internet of Things (IoT) you don’t have to stretch the imagination too much to see how this may impact commercial and homeowners insurance. We’re beyond the point of accepting this as a leap of faith. The groundwork is laid. Now it’s just a matter of time. We can thank the inventors of smart thermostats for developing a practical business a...
Operational Hadoop and the Lambda Architecture for Streaming Data Apache Hadoop is emerging as a distributed platform for handling large and fast incoming streams of data. Predictive maintenance, supply chain optimization, and Internet-of-Things analysis are examples where Hadoop provides the scalable storage, processing, and analytics platform to gain meaningful insights from granular data that is typically only valuable from a large-scale, aggregate view. One architecture useful for capturing...

In every era of innovation, disruptive technologies have had their disbelievers who resisted adopting new concepts. But in today’s business world, “being disruptive” has really empowered many businesses to make tough decisions, investments, and lead the changes that need to be seen organization-wide. Now, many disruptive technologies are truly the foundation for growth – like cloud. Unfortunately, the same pioneering attitude from the executive team doesn’t always trickle down to the internal I...
