RF Micro Devices Inc. Analyst Notes  

On March 25, 2014, RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD) announced that it has signed an agreement with the Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies Directorate within the Air Force Research Laboratory to transfer and produce a 0.14 micron Gallium Nitride (GaN) monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) technology. The Company informed that the technology will be scaled to 6-inch diameter wafers using RFMD's industry-leading 6-inch GaN-on-Silicon Carbide manufacturing line. "Through this Air Force contract we have the opportunity to establish the industry's first 6-inch millimeter wave GaN-on-SiC process technology, allowing RFMD to expand our technology capabilities beyond 100GHz," said Gorden Cook, General Manager of RFMD Power Broadband. "We expect this new technology will not only enable a new class of affordable power MMICs for defense applications such as radar and military communications, but also commercial applications including cable TV networking, microwave backhaul and cellular infrastructure." Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Analyst Notes 

On March 31, 2014, Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (Marvell) announced the launch of its new AC/DC LED driver Integrated Circuit, the Marvell® 88EM8189. The Company informed that the new offering features I2C compatible digital interface integration to connect with a networking microcontroller that runs a lighting control protocol, such as Zigbee, for Smart wireless bulbs, providing premium dimming performance with a full dimming range from 100% to 1%. The 88EM8189 chip enables the lowest standby power consumption by the networking circuit in a Smart wireless bulb while the light is turned off, allowing the system solution to meet ENERGY STAR requirements.
