Inphi Ships 1 Million DDR3 LRDIMM Memory Buffers

Inphi's Memory Buffer Enables Increased Memory Performance and Capacity for Server Virtualization, Big Data Analytics, HPC and Enterprise Storage Applications

SHENZEN, CHINA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/02/14 -- Inphi Corporation (NYSE: IPHI), a leading provider of high-speed mixed signal semiconductor solutions for the communications and computing markets, today announced it has shipped more than one million units of its Isolation Memory Buffer (iMB)™ for Load Reduced Dual-inline Memory Modules (LRDIMMs). LRDIMMs based on Inphi's iMB offer a significant performance improvement across high-density rack and blade server memory capacities -- a critical requirement as IT leaders look to boost data center performance and reliability, while maintaining compatibility with a host of critical applications.

Inphi's iMB technology, the industry's first fully compliant with the memory buffer specification of the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association, helps reduce DRAM device and channel loading on the memory bus, enabling faster processing for big data applications and greater data center server consolidation with higher-capacity virtualized servers. This enables lower total cost of ownership with increased performance for cloud computing data center operators and Fortune 1000 enterprise data centers.

"This milestone is a testimony to Inphi's continued LRDIMM memory buffer leadership and focus on delivering valued products for enterprise and cloud data centers worldwide. In 2013 alone, our memory buffer revenue grew by 270%," said Vinod Lakhani, Inphi's vice president, Memory and Storage Interconnect. "Inphi led the industry standard definition of LRDIMMs at JEDEC and continues to aggressively invest in next-generation memory interconnect technologies to extend our technical and market leadership for the upcoming Intel DDR4 server platforms."

"Dell has worked very closely with Inphi to enable high-capacity LRDIMM memory solutions on our industry-leading PowerEdge servers," said Ashley Gorakhpurwalla, vice president of Server Engineering at Dell. "The combination of Inphi's LRDIMM technology and Dell PowerEdge servers has enabled our enterprise and data center customers to address their growing memory requirements while lowering overall total cost of ownership."

"Intel worked with Inphi and the server memory ecosystem to help define and enable LRDIMMs over the past five years. We are extremely pleased to witness the volume ramp of LRDIMMs as the value proposition accelerated with the launch of Intel's® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 v2 product family and cost effective memory modules," said Geof Findley, director, Platform Memory Operations at Intel. "The value and importance of Inphi's LRDIMM technology will continue to rise as we enable and rollout our upcoming next-generation DDR4 server platforms."

"Micron leveraged Inphi's LRDIMM buffers in its high-capacity server DIMMs," said Robert Feurle, vice president of DRAM marketing at Micron. "We see significant growth opportunities for our LRDIMMs in addressing the large memory capacity requirements of in-memory database and big data analytics markets."

In an independent report made by the technology assessment company Principled Technologies, analysts found that doubling a server systems memory with LRDIMM memory and then using Inphi's iMB technology to reduce the data load times could produce up to 148.1 percent better performance(1).

Similarly, a recent Gartner report estimates that two-thirds of the server workloads are virtualized -- an environment that Inphi's iMB technology can optimize. This includes application, Web and database servers; hosted virtual desktops [HVDs]; and file, print and security servers that would normally be deployed on standard physical servers(2).

“We help people build clusters, in the classical sense of the cluster. We help people put a full stack on top of every single one of those machines. We do the full bare metal install," explained Greg Bruno, Vice President of Engineering and co-founder of StackIQ, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at 15th Cloud Expo, held Nov 4–6, 2014, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
"People are a lot more knowledgeable about APIs now. There are two types of people who work with APIs - IT people who want to use APIs for something internal and the product managers who want to do something outside APIs for people to connect to them," explained Roberto Medrano, Executive Vice President at SOA Software, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at Cloud Expo, held Nov 4–6, 2014, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.

How do APIs and IoT relate? The answer is not as simple as merely adding an API on top of a dumb device, but rather about understanding the architectural patterns for implementing an IoT fabric. There are typically two or three trends: Exposing the device to a management framework Exposing that management framework to a business centric logic Exposing that business layer and data to end users. This last trend is the IoT stack, which involves a new shift in the separation of what stuff happe...

Cloud and Big Data present unique dilemmas: embracing the benefits of these new technologies while maintaining the security of your organization's assets. When an outside party owns, controls and manages your infrastructure and computational resources, how can you be assured that sensitive data remains private and secure? How do you best protect data in mixed use cloud and big data infrastructure sets? Can you still satisfy the full range of reporting, compliance and regulatory requirements? In...

We certainly live in interesting technological times. And no more interesting than the current competing IoT standards for connectivity. Various standards bodies, approaches, and ecosystems are vying for mindshare and positioning for a competitive edge. It is clear that when the dust settles, we will have new protocols, evolved protocols, that will change the way we interact with devices and infrastructure. We will also have evolved web protocols, like HTTP/2, that will be changing the very core...
The Internet of Things is tied together with a thin strand that is known as time. Coincidentally, at the core of nearly all data analytics is a timestamp.
