IDrive Online Backup launches IDrive Safe, a long-term Data Archival Service

New cloud data archival service from IDrive offers monthly, yearly, and one-time storage options via physical drives

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- IDrive Inc., a leader in cloud storage and data backup, announced IDrive Safe, a new long-term archival service giving users options for how frequently they add data to their storage by shipping physical drives.

"We wanted to give users more control over their archived data," says Raghu Kulkarni, CEO of IDrive. "IDrive Safe provides a secure cloud service, which keeps data protected offsite in our data centers. The various plan options allow users to decide how often they add data to their archives depending on their specific archival needs. The goal is to make sure data is securely backed up and stored regularly to keep archives up-to-date throughout the year for one flat fee."

IDrive Safe offers three different plans, helping to personalize the archival experience. Consumers and businesses alike can utilize the service to archive data that is accessed or updated infrequently. Drives are shipped to users - frequency depending on the plan - data is then uploaded to the drive and sent back for archival. The consistency of shipments encourages routine backup practice, removing user irregularity and establishing confidence that data is always fully protected. Using physical drives also reduces upload time, as physical connections are faster and avoids Internet bandwidth issues. Data is stored offsite in secure data centers and data can be made available online within 24 hours of a user's request. Users are also given the option to utilize private key encryption to enhance the security of their archives.

"There is a great advantage to having a drive shipped to you regularly. It saves time while making the archival process simple and more accommodating," add Kulkarni. "We've essentially created a convenient monthly cloud delivery service to encourage data protection while enhancing the user experience."

IDrive Safe is available today with plans starting at $99.50/year for a one-time archive that lasts forever. Other plans include a yearly backup for $199.50/year as well as a monthly archival totaling 13 TB/year for $999.50/year.

The explosion of new web/cloud/IoT-based applications and the data they generate are transforming our world right before our eyes. In this rush to adopt these new technologies, organizations are often ignoring fundamental questions concerning who owns the data and failing to ask for permission to conduct invasive surveillance of their customers. Organizations that are not transparent about how their systems gather data telemetry without offering shared data ownership risk product rejection, regu...

Enterprises are striving to become digital businesses for differentiated innovation and customer-centricity. Traditionally, they focused on digitizing processes and paper workflow. To be a disruptor and compete against new players, they need to gain insight into business data and innovate at scale. Cloud and cognitive technologies can help them leverage hidden data in SAP/ERP systems to fuel their businesses to accelerate digital transformation success.
Poor data quality and analytics drive down business value. In fact, Gartner estimated that the average financial impact of poor data quality on organizations is $9.7 million per year. But bad data is much more than a cost center. By eroding trust in information, analytics and the business decisions based on these, it is a serious impediment to digital transformation.
