CloudSigma to Speak on Public Cloud Private Patching Advancements for the Media Industry at SMPTE 2013

CloudSigma CEO to Offer Solutions to Media Industry's Public Cloud Security Concerns at SMPTE 2013 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition

PALO ALTO, CA - October 15, 2013 - CloudSigma, an international, customer-centric, pure-cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider, today announced that its CEO, Robert Jenkins, has been chosen to speak at the SMPTE Annual Technical Conference for the second consecutive year. Looking at the latest advancements in public cloud technology for the media and entertainment industry, Robert will discuss new private patching capabilities and the security and efficiency benefits they offer media companies. The session, Private Patching in the Cloud: Offering the Media Industry a Mind of Its Own, will be held Thursday, October 24 at 9:30 a.m. PDT in Salon 1 of the Ray Dolby Ballroom at the Loews Hollywood Hotel.

The public cloud's collaboration, scalability and flexibility benefits have offered a solution to media service providers' issues of varying data volumes, unique workflows and dispersed production locations. But, despite these advantages, security fears have kept many providers grounded in their on-premise environment, thanks, in part, to concerns that sensitive data would be traveling over a public IP. However, private patching is changing the way media providers engage with the cloud, allowing them to directly connect their dedicated infrastructure into private networks within the public cloud. As such, not only is public IP usage avoided altogether, but media service providers reap additional productivity and cost benefits such as faster data access and higher throughput performance.

Combining private and public environments securely opens the door to effective hybrid cloud deployment models for the media industry. The session will explore in detail a number of emerging hybrid cloud deployment models particularly suitable for media industry requirements.

What: SMPTE 2013 - Private Patching in the Cloud: Offering the Media Industry a Mind of Its Own
Where: Loews Hollywood Hotel: Salon 1 of the Ray Dolby Ballroom; Hollywood, California
When: Thursday, October 24 at 9:30 a.m. PDT

"The media industry is innovating at a rapid rate, and data security concerns don't need to hold providers back anymore," said Jenkins. "Providers collaborating on a media project rely on each other to exchange data not only promptly, but safely. With transparent private patching technology, this can finally be guaranteed, thereby allowing the media industry's biggest players to re-direct critical resources toward the latest technology advancements and hit films."

In a recent survey, Sumo Logic surveyed 1,500 customers who employ cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). According to the survey, a quarter of the respondents have already deployed Docker containers and nearly as many (23 percent) are employing the AWS Lambda serverless computing framework. It's clear: serverless is here to stay. The adoption does come with some needed changes, within both application development and operations. Th...
Docker and Kubernetes are key elements of modern cloud native deployment automations. After building your microservices, common practice is to create docker images and create YAML files to automate the deployment with Docker and Kubernetes. Writing these YAMLs, Dockerfile descriptors are really painful and error prone.Ballerina is a new cloud-native programing language which understands the architecture around it - the compiler is environment aware of microservices directly deployable into infra...
When Enterprises started adopting Hadoop-based Big Data environments over the last ten years, they were mainly on-premise deployments. Organizations would spin up and manage large Hadoop clusters, where they would funnel exabytes or petabytes of unstructured data. However, over the last few years the economics of maintaining this enormous infrastructure compared with the elastic scalability of viable cloud options has changed this equation. The growth of cloud storage, cloud-managed big data e...
