Prescription Drug Overdose Deaths at Epidemic Levels; Protect Your Loved Ones by Participating in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 27

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 04/15/13 -- 1.2 million emergency department visits in 2009 were related to prescription drug misuse or abuse. Yet few 8th grade middle school students see occasional misuse of prescription drugs as risky, and three in five teens say prescription drugs would be easy to obtain from a parent's medicine cabinet. National Association of Boards of Pharmacy Foundation (NABP) wants everyone to know that over 50% of prescription drug abusers over age 12 got them from family and friends. Proper disposal of unneeded drugs protects your loved ones from misuse. NABP and its AWARxE Consumer Protection Program are taking a stand against prescription drug abuse by spreading awareness of this issue and sharing information on proper prescription drug disposal.

Prescription drug overdose deaths due to misuse have reached epidemic levels in the US, warns the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CDC reports that drug overdose death rates more than tripled from 1990 to 2008, and that a majority of overdose deaths in 2008 were due to prescription drug misuse.

In an effort to help stop this growing problem, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is hosting a Take-Back Day on April 27, 2013. On this day, from 10 AM to 2 PM, thousands of DEA-coordinated collection sites will be available across the country, and AWARxE encourages consumers to use this unique opportunity to safely and legally dispose of any unneeded pills, including controlled substance medications, as these pills can only be accepted for disposal when law enforcement is present. The DEA take-back service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked. Sites will accept tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage forms of unwanted medication. Personal information may be blacked out on prescription bottles, or medications may be emptied from the bottles into the bins provided at the disposal locations.

Now available online, the DEA National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day collection site locator allows consumers to search for a convenient location to dispose of unneeded medications, including prescription pain pills and other controlled substance medications, on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Consumers disposed of 2 million pounds (1,018 tons) of unwanted medication during the first five DEA National Prescription Drug Take-Back Days. The most recent Take-Back Day saw participation from state, local, and tribal law enforcement partners and provided 5,263 take-back sites across all 50 states and the US territories. To find the most convenient location on April 27, 2013, check the DEA collection site locator often, as new locations will be added up until the Take-Back Day.

To help fight the prescription drug abuse epidemic, you can join AWARxE efforts by spreading awareness about prescription drug abuse dangers, proper disposal of unneeded drugs, and secure storage of medications in the home. Together, we can stop the misuse of prescription drugs. More information and a link to the DEA Take-Back Day collection site locator is available on www.AWARErx.org.

DXWorldEXPO Digital Transformation Stories
At CloudEXPO Silicon Valley, June 24-26, 2019, Digital Transformation (DX) is a major focus with expanded DevOpsSUMMIT and FinTechEXPO programs within the DXWorldEXPO agenda. Successful transformation requires a laser focus on being data-driven and on using all the tools available that enable transformation if they plan to survive over the long term. A total of 88% of Fortune 500 companies from a generation ago are now out of business. Only 12% still survive. Similar percentages are found throug...
Every organization is facing their own Digital Transformation as they attempt to stay ahead of the competition, or worse, just keep up. Each new opportunity, whether embracing machine learning, IoT, or a cloud migration, seems to bring new development, deployment, and management models. The results are more diverse and federated computing models than any time in our history.
Data center, on-premise, public-cloud, private-cloud, multi-cloud, hybrid-cloud, IoT, AI, edge, SaaS, PaaS... it's an availability, security, performance and integration nightmare even for the best of the best IT experts. Today's workforce is trading their cubicles and corporate desktops in favor of an any-location, any-device work style. And as digital natives make up more and more of the modern workforce, the appetite for user-friendly, cloud-based services grows. The center of work is shifting to the user and to the cloud. But managing a proliferation of SaaS, web, and mobile apps running on any number of clouds and devices is unwieldy and increases security risks. PJ Hough, Citrix Executive Vice President and...

Where many organizations get into trouble, however, is that they try to have a broad and deep knowledge in each of these areas. This is a huge blow to an organization's productivity. By automating or outsourcing some of these pieces, such as databases, infrastructure, and networks, your team can instead focus on development, testing, and deployment. Further, organizations that focus their attention on these areas can eventually move to a test-driven development structure that condenses several l...

Over the course of two days, in addition to insightful conversations and presentations delving into the industry's current pressing challenges, there was considerable buzz about digital transformation and how it is enabling global enterprises to accelerate business growth. Blockchain has been a term that people hear but don't quite understand. The most common myths about blockchain include the assumption that it is private, or that there is only one blockchain, and the idea that blockchain is...
