Metalogix StoragePoint Shatters the 2 Gigabyte Barrier for Managing Extremely Large Files Directly Within SharePoint

New Feature Is a Breakthrough for Managing Big Content in SharePoint and Addresses Key Pain Point for Many Organizations

WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 03/13/13 -- Metalogix, the leading provider of content infrastructure software to improve the use and performance of enterprise content on Microsoft SharePoint, Exchange and Cloud platforms, today announced that the latest version of Metalogix StoragePoint gives organizations the powerful ability to store, access and backup files over 2 gigabytes (GB) through SharePoint. This breakthrough capability is fully integrated directly within SharePoint 2010 and 2013 and works seamlessly with SharePoint features such as metadata management and workflows.

The recent SharePoint Content Survey revealed that enterprise content is growing 75 percent annually. For many organizations, this growth is driven by extremely large files that routinely exceed 2GB, such as 3D CAD drawings, software builds and high definition media files. For organizations that work with these large files, specifically construction, engineering and software development companies, it was previously impossible to store these files in SharePoint due to SharePoint's file size limitations. These limitations forced business users to store and access files outside SharePoint in content silos that resulted in process errors, productivity loss, security risks and complicated backup procedures. With the breakthrough feature now available in StoragePoint, organizations can rely solely on SharePoint for managing files of any size, thus improving collaboration, productivity and content governance.

Full support for extremely large files is the latest game-changing feature available in StoragePoint for managing Big Content. Other breakthrough features include the ability to continuously and automatically back up files over 2GB and unstructured SharePoint content, known as Binary Large Objects (BLOBs), to remove the need for costly, time-consuming backups. StoragePoint, which fully supports SharePoint 2007, 2010 and 2013, enables organizations to externalize SharePoint content to shrink database sizes, slash storage cost and boost performance by moving BLOBs outside of SQL Servers on to affordable external storage tiers, including SAN, NAS or the Cloud. By externalizing BLOBs, StoragePoint dramatically improves SharePoint performance by shrinking databases by up to 95%.
