Piston Cloud Launches OpenStack Training Classes

Open to the Public, Courses Are Designed to Accelerate Customer Success

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/13/13 -- Piston Cloud Computing, Inc., the enterprise OpenStack™ company, today announced that they will offer a series of training classes for IT administrators and OpenStack end users designed to ease and accelerate customer adoption of OpenStack technology and the Piston Enterprise OpenStack™ product.

"OpenStack is gaining widespread traction across industries and we are in a unique position to share strategic and tactical insights that will help drive broader adoption," said Jim Morrisroe, CEO of Piston Cloud. "To meet this growing demand, we've assembled a team of OpenStack experts who will help IT administrators and OpenStack end users learn the skills necessary to effectively deploy and utilize OpenStack. Making these training courses open to the public will enable customers to more easily and quickly realize the money and time-saving benefits of our enterprise OpenStack private cloud software."

Piston Cloud engineers, with deep technical expertise and inside knowledge of the OpenStack project roadmap, will work closely with attendees to help them learn how to take advantage of the full self-service capabilities of OpenStack. Attendees will leave with the knowledge needed to get started with OpenStack, including a deep understanding of the cloud software and hardware architecture, OpenStack configuration, installation and administration and an overview of the extended enterprise OpenStack features offered by Piston Cloud.

Training is available in several formats, and may also be customized. Training workshops will include, but are not limited to:

  • Deploying OpenStack for Cloud Administrators: A two-day training session targeted at IT administrators who need a deeper understanding of the OpenStack platform. Participants will learn how to design, install and configure Enterprise OpenStack, assess the overall state of their private cloud, optimize infrastructure for specific workloads, assign and manage roles-based user access controls and set limits on resource consumption.

  • OpenStack for End Users: A half-day, introductory seminar intended for end users who want to take advantage of the self-service capabilities of OpenStack-powered clouds. Attendees will learn how to provision compute, storage and networking resources using the OpenStack dashboard, and the command line clients.

  • Building and Customizing OpenStack for Developers: A five-day training session to teach developers how to access, modify and extend the various subcomponents of the OpenStack framework for their organization's specific needs. Common targets include customized authentication and authorization plugins, advanced software-defined networking (SDN) and cloud-based management of industry-specific hardware such as video transcoding and high-performance computing.

  • Use Case-Specific Training: Specialized training for users and deployments targeting specific use cases, including: Cloud Foundry integration (PaaS on IaaS), cloud storage best practices (objects, blocks and files), and multi-datacenter clouds using SDN.

The next training course, Deploying OpenStack for Cloud Administrators, will take place on May 8-9, 2013 in San Francisco. For more information, including the complete training schedule, please visit http://www.pistoncloud.com/training/.

One of the most compelling promises of the cloud is that you can pull out a credit card and be working in minutes. No purchase orders to fill out, no equipment to wait for on the loading dock. Just instant access to the resources you need, when you need them. But accessibility comes at a price, and an unintentional consequence may be that you create yet another orphaned identity silo. Enterprise IT has spent years consolidating its mishmash of directories, only to discover that cloud now threate...
