Catbird Announces vSecurity Certified VCE Vblock Ready

Company's Software-Defined Security Provides Integrated Security and Compliance Enforcement for Vblock(TM) Systems

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/13/13 -- Catbird®, the pioneer in security and compliance for virtual, cloud and physical networks, today announced that VCE (the Virtual Computing Environment) has certified Catbird's vSecurity® Software-Defined Security solution on VCETM Vblock™ Systems as "VCE Vblock Ready."

Catbird also has joined VCE's tiered Technology Alliance Partner program, enabling it to deliver an even larger range of security solutions to VCE-based data centers and to guarantee that vSecurity has been tested and will work with strong predictability on Vblock systems.

Catbird vSecurity is architected specifically to enforce security and compliance of virtualized infrastructure. With its fully software-based automated security solution, vSecurity enables VCE customers to step up their virtualized operations by reducing concerns about deploying mission-critical, regulated assets.

VCE's Vblock systems integrate leading Cisco networking and server, EMC storage and VMware cloud infrastructure technologies into a single intelligent converged infrastructure system with seamless support. VCE-authorized Superna™ conducted Catbird's certification process.

Along with its Technology Alliance Partner designation, Catbird's newly attained Vblock-ready certification confirms that vSecurity interoperates with Vblock systems. The certification enables Catbird to accelerate the adoption and use of Vblock systems with vSecurity to deliver cost-efficient multi-function security for virtual infrastructure, orchestrating virtual firewalling, IDS/IPS, vulnerability management, logical zoning and network access control, amongst other technical controls.

Catbird's continuous compliance monitoring also enables simple, consistent and speedy enforcement of standards such as PCI and HIPAA, while reducing audit preparation costs and related risks in VCE environments.

"Catbird's integrated approach for protecting software-defined networks is the perfect complement to the virtualized networks in VCE," says Edmundo Costa, Catbird CEO. "vSecurity provides one-click deployment of a wide variety of technical controls prebundled and preconfigured to monitor and enforce compliance in VCE-based data centers. Together, vSecurity and Vblock enable customers to focus on business operation and growth rather than integrating, validating and managing their IT infrastructure.

Catbird's is rolling out VCE support through its network of VCE channel partners, including Forsythe, which is a leading partner of VCE and also Catbird.

Joe Rueda, VP, systems computing solutions at Forsythe, comments, "As our clients evaluate and deploy converged virtual infrastructures, effectively securing virtualized information is a major consideration. We are pleased to see the collaboration between VCE and Catbird to address this requirement."

The rise of cloud computing has exposed hard drive-based storage as the new data center bottleneck. Combating this, data center managers have deployed SSDs to gain the performance needed to provide real-time access to data. However, due to budget constraints, many have turned to consumer-grade SSDs without understanding that they wear out quickly when processing enterprise workloads. In this session, Esther Spanjer will discuss recent endurance advancements in SSD technology that enable usage of...
