CORRECTING and REPLACING ExaGrid Named as one of Storage Magazine/SearchStorage.com 2012 Products of the Year

Please replace the release dated February 28, 2013 with the following corrected version due to multiple revisions.

The corrected release reads:

EXAGRID NAMED AS ONE OF STORAGE MAGAZINE/SEARCHSTORAGE.COM 2012 PRODUCTS OF THE YEAR

ExaGrid’s EX130-GRID-SEC with data at rest encryption and Secure Erase takes Bronze in Backup Hardware category

ExaGrid Systems, Inc. (www.exagrid.com), the leader in scalable and cost-effective disk-based backup solutions with data deduplication, today announced that its EX130-GRID-SEC Disk Backup with Deduplication System with encryption at rest and Secure Erase was selected as a bronze winner in the Data Backup Hardware category of Storage Magazine/SearchStorage.com’s 2012 Product of the Year Awards.

The EX130-GRID-SEC disk backup with deduplication system with encryption at rest and Secure Erase eliminates any risk of backup data security breaches by delivering unique, world-class security capabilities. Unlike other solutions that employ encryption inline in software, which uses compute cycles and slows down backups, ExaGrid’s approach encrypts the data at the disk drive level as it is writing to the disk – using enterprise-class Seagate Self-Encrypting Drive technology with FIPS 140-2 compliant encryption at rest to automatically encrypt all data on the disk drive without impact on backup performance.

In addition to encryption at rest, ExaGrid’s Secure Erase permanently wipes the selected backup data off the disk by erasing the bits at the disk level, rather than just performing a simple delete. For organizations with high security concerns and rules, the standard approach of file deletion – which simply means marking areas of the disk free while leaving the deleted data in place until it is overwritten later – is inadequate. ExaGrid’s Secure Erase is the only solution that overwrites the affected disk areas with a secure erasure procedure – sometimes referred to as a “forensic cleaning” – to completely remove data that must be deleted. ExaGrid’s Secure Erase is fully compliant with Department of Defense standard (DoD 5220-22-M) and National Institute of Standards and Technology standard (NIST SP800-88).

Additional security capabilities offered by ExaGrid include Server Message Block (SMB) signing, vulnerability scanning, and an ExaGrid share access whitelist.

ExaGrid’s EX130-GRID-SEC with data at rest encryption and Secure Erase was one of the select few data storage products chosen first as one of 52 finalists from more than 160 entries, and eventually one of 14 selected as 2012's best data storage products. Storage Magazine and SearchStorage.com editors and other storage industry experts, along with storage users, judged the entries and selected winners based on: innovation, performance, ease of integration into environment, ease of use and manageability, functionality and value.

  • Mark Crespi, vice president of product management for ExaGrid Systems: “Securing backup data has become an absolute requirement for many organizations, in part due to government regulations such as HIPAA, GLBA, and Sarbanes-Oxley that place stringent requirements to secure and backup a wide range of data. This award is further recognition of the world-class enterprise security features found in ExaGrid’s product line, including encryption at rest, vulnerability hardening, SMB signing and Secure Erase. ExaGrid’s EX130-GRID-SEC with encryption at rest and Secure Erase directly addresses our customers’ needs for capabilities that allow them to comply with the strictest security and confidentiality rules.”

About ExaGrid’s Technology:
