UPDATE: Paragon Software Group Launches High Availability Storage Solution With Instantaneous Failover and Recovery

Paragon StarWind iSCSI SAN & NAS Offers Savings of up to 90 Percent When Compared to Proprietary Hardware-Based Products

IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/07/13 -- Paragon Software Group (PSG), a leader in data storage, backup and recovery, announced the launch of its new product offering, Paragon StarWind iSCSI SAN & NAS. Delivered in conjunction with Massachusetts-based technology partner, StarWind Software, this new software solution is a storage hypervisor that turns any industry-standard Windows server into a reliable, fault-tolerant, and unified SAN and NAS, while utilizing common "off the shelf" or existing storage devices and network infrastructure. Offering savings of up to 90 percent, iSCSI SAN & NAS is a powerful alternative to traditional High Availability (HA) products that rely on costly, proprietary, hardware-based HA architectures.

The product offers several deployment options including a three-node HA structure designed to eliminate a single point of failure. The product's configurations are double fault tolerant (failure of 2 out of 3 storage nodes) resulting in 99.999% uptime. As a flexible and easy-to-manage solution, any IT administrator familiar with Windows servers can configure and deploy the Paragon StarWind iSCSI SAN & NAS solution in a matter of minutes.

"We've leveraged over 20 years of expertise in the storage and data management space and combined that with the proven technology from StarWind Software to bring a truly innovative high availability, enterprise-class storage product to our customer and reseller community," said Tom Fedro, president of Paragon Software Group. "Our unique software approach delivers a measurable five '9's' in up-time performance while eliminating the need for expensive, proprietary hardware, empowering new market segments to embrace the high availability model."

Key features include:

  • Install the solution and configure a new SAN in minutes
  • Centralize site-wide iSCSI storage provisioning via the Paragon Management Console
  • Achieve cost-effective HA processing with instantaneous failover and recovery
  • Protect data using HA, RAID-1 mirroring, automated snapshots, and replication
  • Consolidate file and block level data, unifying SAN and NAS storage to simplify configuration, management, and maintenance
  • Use NAS to create iSCSI targets and avoid the purchase of new hard drives for storage

"We are very pleased to enter into co-branding agreement with Paragon Software Group who has the great authority and worldwide recognition in the data storage market," said Artem Berman, Chief Executive Officer of StarWind Software. "We are confident that this new relationship will provide StarWind with an opportunity to maintain and increase its presence in the United States. Paragon Software Group is a team of professionals with 20 years experience in the marketplace and we are going to learn from their experience."

Paragon StarWind iSCSI SAN & NAS enables an N+1 configuration that allows for building an on-site two or three-node HA cluster with off-site replication. The built-in WAN replication feature assists in the creation of a disaster recovery site that can be located miles away from the main datacenter. The WAN acceleration technology is based on deduplication, snapshots, and compression, in which their combined power ensures 50x-100x reduction of transmitted data and allows for the use of slower WAN connections.

The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to evolve the way the world does business; however, understanding how to apply it to your company can be a mystery. Most people struggle with understanding the potential business uses or tend to get caught up in the technology, resulting in solutions that fail to meet even minimum business goals. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jesse Shiah, CEO / President / Co-Founder of AgilePoint Inc., showed what is needed to leverage the IoT to transform your business. ...
Hadoop as a Service (as offered by handful of niche vendors now) is a cloud computing solution that makes medium and large-scale data processing accessible, easy, fast and inexpensive. In his session at Big Data Expo, Kumar Ramamurthy, Vice President and Chief Technologist, EIM & Big Data, at Virtusa, will discuss how this is achieved by eliminating the operational challenges of running Hadoop, so one can focus on business growth. The fragmented Hadoop distribution world and various PaaS soluti...
The true value of the Internet of Things (IoT) lies not just in the data, but through the services that protect the data, perform the analysis and present findings in a usable way. With many IoT elements rooted in traditional IT components, Big Data and IoT isn’t just a play for enterprise. In fact, the IoT presents SMBs with the prospect of launching entirely new activities and exploring innovative areas. CompTIA research identifies several areas where IoT is expected to have the greatest impac...
In his session at DevOps Summit, Tapabrata Pal, Director of Enterprise Architecture at Capital One, will tell a story about how Capital One has embraced Agile and DevOps Security practices across the Enterprise – driven by Enterprise Architecture; bringing in Development, Operations and Information Security organizations together. Disruptive macro trends in technology are impacting and dramatically changing the "art of the possible" relative to supply chain management practices through the innovative use of IoT, cloud, machine learning and Big Data to enable connected ecosystems of engagement. Enterprise informatics can now move beyond point solutions that merely monitor the past and implement integrated enterprise fabrics that enable end-to-end supply chain visibility to improve customer service delivery and optimize sup...
Even as cloud and managed services grow increasingly central to business strategy and performance, challenges remain. The biggest sticking point for companies seeking to capitalize on the cloud is data security. Keeping data safe is an issue in any computing environment, and it has been a focus since the earliest days of the cloud revolution. Understandably so: a lot can go wrong when you allow valuable information to live outside the firewall. Recent revelations about government snooping, along...
The Workspace-as-a-Service (WaaS) market will grow to $6.4B by 2018. In his session at 16th Cloud Expo, Seth Bostock, CEO of IndependenceIT, will begin by walking the audience through the evolution of Workspace as-a-Service, where it is now vs. where it going. To look beyond the desktop we must understand exactly what WaaS is, who the users are, and where it is going in the future.
