Future Facilities to Lead Data Center Capacity Discussion at Green Data Center Conference 2013 in San Diego

Discussion Will Focus on How Proper Data Center Design Can Maximize Data Center Utilization

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/29/13 -- Future Facilities North America, a leading provider of data center design and operations management software, today announced that its General Manager for North America, Sherman Ikemoto will lead a discussion on how the proper use of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and capacity planning can maximize data center utilization at the Green Data Center Conference at the Sheraton La Jolla hotel January 29-31, 2013.

On January 30th at 1:15 p.m., Mr. Ikemoto will discuss how to develop a roadmap to incrementally reclaim lost data center capacity, with the goal of reaching 100% utilization in future IT deployments. Mr. Ikemoto will discuss a case study of an enterprise data center that was operating at forty percent under assumed load capacity, presenting the facility with significant financial and operational risks due to non-optimal airflow.

The discussion will go into detail on how the enterprise data center worked with Future Facilities to develop a mitigation strategy based on the simulation of power and cooling through Future Facilities' predictive DCIM offering. The simulation provided a real-time analysis of interdependent space, cooling and power resources. Additionally, the simulation determined lost capacity for each zone, enabling engineers to recommend immediate changes to the physical layout.

Throughout the discussion, attendees will be provided with instructions on tools, techniques and best practices of data center modeling, while getting the answers to the following questions:

  • How is compute capacity lost?
  • Once lost, can it be reclaimed?
  • Can lost capacity be avoided altogether?

One of the cloud’s biggest draws is the capability to virtualize computing resources, allowing it to be consumed with the click of a mouse. But behind that simple click is an enormous infrastructure challenge that has recently been cited as a major cause for slower enterprise adoption. Enterprises can better prepare for this shift and take full advantage of future computing benefits. Between architecture design and migration planning, the road can be long, so what do you do with your talent? I...
In the old world of IT, if you didn't have hardware capacity or the budget to buy more, your project was dead in the water. Budget constraints can leave some of the best, most creative and most ingenious innovations on the cutting room floor. It’s a true dilemma for developers and innovators – why spend the time creating, when a project could be abandoned in a blink? That was the old world. In the new world of IT, developers rule. They have access to resources they can spin up instantly. A hyb...
