Flexiant and SolidFire Integrate to Help Customers Build Differentiated Cloud Services

Integration of SolidFire's all-SSD storage and Flexiant Cloud Orchestrator combines high performance storage technologies with cloud management software to deliver better value and improved experience for service providers' customers

London, UK and Boulder, Colorado - 22 January 2013 - Flexiant and SolidFire today announced the integration of SolidFire's all-SSD storage system with Flexiant Cloud Orchestrator. Using this combined solution, customers can now build cloud service offerings that are uniquely differentiated across both cost and quality of service.

SolidFire's unique blend of storage performance and quality-of-service, when paired with Flexiant's mature, reliable and feature-rich management software, offers service providers ready-to-use cloud infrastructure. With the integration announced today customers can now granularly provision storage performance (IOPS) and capacity across the SolidFire cluster on a per volume basis from within Flexiant's Cloud Orchestrator console.

With SolidFire and Flexiant's integrated capabilities, customers can accelerate deployment of their private or public cloud infrastructure services and address three of the most frequently encountered challenges in managing cloud infrastructure today; consistent performance, provisioning flexibility and management automation.

Tony Lucas, Product Champion and Founder, Flexiant said, "SolidFire has addressed the problems of delivering predictable multi-tenant cloud storage in a way that existing storage systems cannot. The SolidFire / Flexiant integration gives customers the storage system to be a high-performance leader, and the orchestration software for on-demand, fully automated provisioning of cloud services. This combination will enable cloud services providers to gain a competitive business edge through differentiated service offerings."

"A key aspect to any of our partnerships is helping customers accelerate time to value," said Dave Wright, CEO, SolidFire. "Integrating with key cloud building blocks like Flexiant Cloud Orchestrator is a critical piece of this equation."

"Integration with SolidFire was quick and very straight forward through the use of their REST based APIs," added Lucas. "It has allowed us to offer cloud service providers a level of storage provisioning, automation and scale that simply cannot be achieved by any other solution on the market."

With similar heritages, Flexiant and SolidFire were both founded to solve the headaches encountered when companies are forced to use legacy tools to deliver cloud services. Tony Lucas developed Flexiant Cloud Orchestrator to solve the cloud management issues faced as he delivered cloud services in prior roles. Similarly, Dave Wright founded SolidFire after witnessing first-hand the unique storage challenges in a multi-tenant cloud infrastructure. Together, this integration and partnership combines best of breed products designed to solve real world cloud infrastructure challenges in a market ready package.

The cloud provides an easy onramp to building and deploying Big Data solutions. Transitioning from initial deployment to large-scale, highly performant operations may not be as easy. In his session at 15th Cloud Expo, Harold Hannon, Sr. Software Architect at SoftLayer, will discuss the benefits, weaknesses, and performance characteristics of public and bare metal cloud deployments that can help you make the right decisions.
Where historically app development would require developers to manage device functionality, application environment and application logic, today new platforms are emerging that are IoT focused and arm developers with cloud based connectivity and communications, development, monitoring, management and analytics tools. In her session at Internet of @ThingsExpo, Seema Jethani, Director of Product Management at Basho Technologies, will explore how to rapidly prototype using IoT cloud platforms and c...
BlueData aims to “democratize Big Data” with its launch of EPIC Enterprise, which it calls “the industry’s first Big Data software to enable enterprises to create a self-service cloud experience on premise.” This self-service private cloud allows enterprises to create 100-node Hadoop and Spark clusters in less than 10 minutes. The company is also offering a Community Edition via free download. We had a few questions for BlueData CEO Kumar Sreekanti about all this, and here's what he had to s...

He also serves as a professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley. Ion previously co-founded Conviva to commercial...
Due of the rise of Hadoop, many enterprises are now deploying their first small clusters of 10 to 20 servers. At this small scale, the complexity of operating the cluster looks and feels like general data center servers. It is not until the clusters scale, as they inevitably do, when the pain caused by the exponential complexity becomes apparent. We've seen this problem occur time and time again.
Labor market analytics firm Wanted Analytics recently assessed the market for technology professionals and found that demand for people with proficient levels of Hadoop expertise had skyrocketed by around 33% since last year – it is true, Hadoop is hard technology to master and the labor market is not exactly flooded with an over-abundance of skilled practitioners. Hadoop has been called a foundational technology, rather than ‘just’ a database by some commentators – this almost pushes it towards...
