Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in imaging solutions, today announced an update to its desktop laser printer lineup for small businesses and corporate workgroups with the launch of the Color imageRUNNER LBP5480 and the imageRUNNER LBP3580, each delivering excellent usability, ease of management, and exceptional integration with Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE multi-function devices.
These MEAP (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) enabled printers – like the earlier released imageRUNNER LBP5280 and LBP3480 models -- are designed to seamlessly integrate with other Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE systems and to help extend the value of customers’ investments by bringing MFP workflows to the desktop printer. Using a common tool set including imageWARE Enterprise Management Console, uniFLOW, and unified print drivers, customers and providers can create a cohesive, consistent, and easily managed printing solution across an entire fleet of devices.
“These new imageRUNNER LBP models deliver the productivity and advanced technology users demand, all in a compact, desktop design,” said Sam Yoshida, vice president and general manager, Marketing, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A. “They also allow for the latest applications – such as AA-PRINT and Canon Mobile Printing -- to enhance the way users incorporate these devices into their everyday workflow.”
Available for these new models is the server-less Advanced Anywhere-Print (AA-Print) solution that increases productivity and security by allowing users to print and retrieve their documents after authentication at any AA-Print supported Canon device on a user’s network. Another MEAP application for the models will be uniFLOW, allowing users to easily release secured print jobs from the highly flexible uniFLOW document output server without the need for release station hardware.
The imageRUNNER LBP5480 and LBP3580 also support the new Canon Mobile Printing App* for iPhone® and iPad®, a solution that enables users to send print jobs directly from their iPhone and iPad to a compatible Canon output device**. Users can print Microsoft® Office files (doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx), iWork files, PDF, JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG, TIFF files, photographs, and web pages.
The Color imageRUNNER LBP5480 and the imageRUNNER LBP3580 fully support imageWARE Remote and Canon’s innovative Content Delivery System. imageWARE Remote, Canon’s eMaintenance solution, allows Canon Authorized Dealers to proactively and securely monitor usage, relay status, and even report errors, helping customers to save valuable time and resources. The Content Delivery System allows service providers to deliver remote firmware and software updates to customers with limited or no business interruption. The standard DeviceLink integration can also automatically route inbound faxes from an imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFP to the new printer models, making receiving faxes both more convenient and secure, while helping to cut costs by reducing the number of fax lines an organization may need. The combination of these management and collaboration tools, combined with MEAP technology, brings advanced MFP solutions and features to a small-format desktop printer.
Ease of Use and Convenience
To increase ease of use and simplify operation for general users, the two new printers are equipped with a five-line LCD. The panel features on-screen navigation with a scrolling display to facilitate device use as well as animations to help guide operations. For added convenience, both models include popular features from the imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs lineup including: USB Direct Print, allowing users to print documents from a USB drive without a computer; and Encrypted Secured Print, enabled with the optional SD Card. The optional SD card also enables Mail Box storage for frequently used jobs and Email Printing, allowing a user to simply send an email to the printer to print the message and supported attached files.
Low-Environmental Impact
Although the new devices are a powerful and productive addition to any printer fleet, they can also help support customers’ environmental goals. The Color imageRUNNER LBP5480 and imageRUNNER LBP3580 desktop printers follow Canon’s environmentally conscious design philosophy and offer low-energy usage, meeting all ENERGY STAR and RoHS requirements through the eco-conscious design. Canon’s patented RAPID Fusing Technology is employed for fast warm-up, and each model uses a very low 1W of power in sleep mode.
Color imageRUNNER LBP5480
The Color imageRUNNER LBP5480 replaces the LBP5460 in the Canon imageRUNNER LBP Series, and is ideal for small- to mid-size corporate workgroups and small businesses requiring both color and black-and-white output and the ability to print on legal-size paper. With a paper capacity of up to 1,100 sheets, the model outputs high-quality color documents at up to 33 pages-per-minute (ppm). Generous standard features include 9600 (equivalent) x 600 dpi print resolution, support for Adobe® PostScript® 3TM, PCL5c/6, and Canon’s UFR II print drivers; 768MB of internal memory, duplex printing and Ethernet and USB 2.0 Hi-speed ports. Options include a 500 sheet cassette, an 8GB SD Card, and a Barcode Print Kit for easy printing of barcode fonts in support of enterprise resource planning tools and other barcode-centric processes.
imageRUNNER LBP3580
The Canon imageRUNNER LBP3580 model -- which succeeds the imageRUNNER LBP3560 – also supports legal-size media and is a good choice for mid- to large-size corporate workgroups and small businesses requiring black-and-white output. With a paper capacity of up to 1,600 sheets, the model outputs crisp monochrome documents at up to 42 ppm with 1200 x 1200 (equivalent) dpi resolution. Standard features mirror the Color imageRUNNER LBP5480 with support for Adobe PostScript 3, PCL5e/6, and Canon’s UFR II print drivers; 768MB of internal memory, duplex printing and Ethernet and USB 2.0 Hi-speed ports. Options for the imageRUNNER LBP3580 not only include the 8GB SD Card and Barcode Print Kit but also the availability of three 500 sheet paper cassettes.
Each model is available through Canon Authorized Dealers and Canon Solutions America. The Color imageRUNNER LBP5480 is available now at a suggested retail price of $1,350, and the imageRUNNER LBP3580 will be available on February 1, 2013 for a suggested retail price of $999.
