Verdigris Technologies' Smart Building Platform Wins Tech Trailblazers International Startup Competition in Big Data Category

San Francisco, CA - January 11, 2013 - Verdigris Technologies has been announced as the winning Big Data Trailblazer in the inaugural 2012 Tech Trailblazers Awards for enterprise information technology startups.

The winners include inventors of some of the world's most innovative new technologies, breaking new ground in the areas of Big Data, Cloud, Emerging Markets, Mobile, Networking, Security, Sustainable IT, Storage and Visualization.

Entrants were first selected to a shortlist by a notable panel of judges; then, over the course of a month, the voting public reviewed each startup's pitches, with further voting by the judges. In the Big Data category, Verdigris Technologies was the clear favorite with its compelling presentation about Building.AI and the groundbreaking impact big data can have on the future of global electricity use. Judges included experts and CEOs of successful technology companies.

Building.AI is a comprehensive platform with the groundbreaking ability to measure any building's electricity use down to a specific appliance. From the circuit panel, Building.AI can simultaneously and accurately measure as many as 1,000 different devices from each single sensor node, by sampling data 7,600 times a second. The algorithms are so powerful that they can sense an anomaly in an appliance's "fingerprint," indicating it may fail soon. Down the road, the Building.AI platform will add real-time alerts and notifications to optimize building efficiency, integrate with building automation systems, and participate in demand response and ancillary service markets.

Rose Ross, Chief Trailblazer said, "On behalf of the international judging panel, I would like to congratulate all the winners of the first-annual Tech Trailblazers Awards. Winners of this year's Tech Trailblazers Awards are some of the most inventive and visionary enterprise tech startups in the world today. I'm sure we will be hearing more from them all in the future."

Mark Chung, founder of Verdigris Technologies, stated: "We are honored to be inaugural winners in the Tech Trailblazers competition and delighted that industry experts, our peers, and the general public recognize the importance of the work we are doing. Big energy data represents a transformational shift for the sake of tackling global climate change."

Verdigris has been largely self-funded by initial founders as well as friends, family, and advisors who share the vision of greening the grid. Verdigris is growing organically by growing a steady pipeline of paying customers excited about the technology and its benefits.

If zettabytes of data exist, why is less than 1% of the world’s data being analyzed today? Seasoned entrepreneur and startup CEO Radhika Subramanian believes that the inability to analyze and gain value from Big Data is that organizations are taking a services-centered approach. As the title of the session implies, Subramanian believes that the data needs to do the talking, not armies of analysts searching and querying databases. Her company has developed high-speed, advanced algorithms to autom...
Cloud enables SMBs to access new, scalable resources – previously only available to enterprises – in flexible and cost-effective ways. McKinsey’s SMB Cloud Report projects the public cloud market to reach $40-$50 billion by 2015, with SMBs comprising 65% of public cloud spending in 2015. But selling cloud to SMBs raises the questions of who, what and how. In this session Manjula Talreja, VP of Cisco’s Global Cloud Business Development Team, will discuss the importance of knowing who SMB...
